πŸ“The Hartman's Building, located at 622 Washington Street, was constructed sometime in the 1880s. πŸ—οΈ One of the first known businesses at the location was Stephens & Sipple. πŸ§‘β€πŸ’ΌπŸ‘¨β€πŸ’Ό By 1890 a men's clothing store occupied the bottom floor πŸ‘” with a photography studio on the second. πŸ“Έ In 1896 a grocery store operated from the first floor. πŸ₯«πŸ›’ By 1897, Hartman’s Ladies Ready-To-Wear, owned by Simon P. and Phil W. Hartman, had moved into the building. πŸ‘—πŸ‘œ By 1917 the business had expanded its offerings significantly. πŸ“ˆ In 1927 Phil Hartman sold the business to A. C. Smith and Isaac Graham upon moving to Kansas City. πŸ™οΈ Following this the Smith Department Store opened, 🏬 though it only lasted until 1930. πŸ“‰ During this time the second floor was leased to Dolph Maupin for the Mid-West Business School; πŸŽ“ Maupin previously led Maupin College based in the New York Store. 🏫 Clothing stores occupied the building through the 1950s, πŸ‘šπŸ‘– Sears moved in during the 1960s and 70s, πŸ›οΈ and Fletchall Office Supply was in the building from 1975–1995. πŸ–‡οΈπŸ“Ž Edward Jones moved in right after πŸ’ΌπŸ’° and today the building is home to Horsman Law. βš–οΈ
