Then and Now #6 - Luella Grand Theater

📍Originally constructed in 1895 by Zebulon "Zibe" Myers, the Luella Grand Theater🎭 stood at what is today 712 Clay Street neighboring the Luella Hotel (later the Strand Hotel)🏨. The spot served as an opera house and moving picture theater🎟️ for 38 years until it caught fire and burned down in 1933🔥. Following this the property was redeveloped into the Strand Coffee shop☕, connected to the Hotel. Between the 1930s and the early 2000s the space was used by various different restaurants. In 1942-43, during World War II🪖, the Strand Hotel and Cafe were used by the Army Air Force Technical School via the Chillicothe Business College before returning to being a cafe. Similar to the strand, today the property has served as apartments🏠 since 2005.
