Downtown Blue Springs Unveils a New Mural Designed By Students at Blue Springs South High School in Partnership with the Blue Springs School District, Downtown Blue Springs, and Funded by the City of Blue Springs Community Improvement District and The Blue Springs Art League.
Over the Summer, a group of talented students at Blue Springs South High School designed a custom, hand-painted mural with the concept, "Imagine Blue Springs."
The unveiling happened Tuesday, October 7th during National Night Out.
Each year, National Night Out in Blue Springs takes place in the parking lot between 10th and 11th streets, and Main and Walnut streets. National Night Out is a community event where families come to learn more about the resources within their community to stay safe and connected to one another. When we were planning the unveiling, we thought doing it at this event made total sense because we already had a booth and the location is the same!
The painting itself was done inside of the BSSHS Woodshop. Students began designing the mural in March and completed it before the end of the summer.
There were multiple students, teachers and community partners that helped make this mural a reality.

The concept of this mural is, "Imagine Blue Springs," and we encouraged the students to think about their favorite and most memorable parts of Blue Springs, and also what it could be in the future.
When the students were planning this design, they talked about landmarks, businesses and artwork within our community that they find comfort in, and how they could portray that in a unique, modern, colorful viewpoint. Jeremy and Jeran told us that this batch of students is one of the most talented they've had, and it was a pleasure to not only challenge them but watch how they planned, managed and executed a group project of this scale.
A big project like this can be challenging and in some cases, a headache....but not in this case.
From the start, this project felt like, "right place, right time." Active teachers, talented and driven students, community support and a purpose, all came together to make one beautiful piece of artwork for our community.
Thank you to everyone who attended the unveiling and supported the many people who made this possible.
